Basketball In The Sun.

 After a cold and wet half-term Room 7 have been enjoying the sunny weather with some Basketball lessons from Kelly Sport. Here are a few photos and videos of the children learning new skills to help them play the game. 

Kaitiakitanga Day

Today we all went on a bus to learn about Kaitiakitanga as well as predator/pest control. Here is what Sulia wrote about her experience: 

 "On Friday on the 5th of August we got the opportunity to go and learn about trees and pests to protect the birds, trees, kiwis and ETC. In the morning we got to meet Chris, and Chris started to explain everything like how the traps work and how to use them. After Chris explained everything we had a quick morning tea because the bus was waiting outside for us. 

When we got into the bus we had to wait for 20 min and then we made it to Cornwall park. It was so beautiful, relaxing and very fun to look at. First we took a quick look at the map then we split up into 2 groups, one group went with Lisa and Charlie and the other group went with Chris. My group went with Charlie and Lisa first and the other group went with Chris/ Lisa and Charlie took my group for a walk and told us some facts about trees. After we took a little walk we saw a tree with spider-webs and it looked like a Halloween tree instead of a Christmas tree. 

Later on we had to switch with the other group which meant the other group goes with Lisa and Charlie and my group goes with Chris. First we had a look at one of the traps and one of the traps had the peanut butter licked off and we saw that the pest spit out some of the peanut butter. We also took a look at some of the other traps but it was all empty. But we found out that the pest that ate the peanut butter was a rat. After taking a look at all the traps we all got some binoculars and tried to look for some birds. I saw a Fan Tail. It looked so beautiful and relaxed. After that we ate our lunch and played some games afterwards, then the bus arrived to pick us up.

 After another 20 min we made it to school. We took a pest test and some of us got mixed up with all of the questions. Later on we made our own tracking tunnels and some of us like me wanted to set our own outside. After that we went back home to rest. It was a really great experience."

Learning About Matariki

 

Matariki Celebrations.

 

This year to celebrate our first Matariki National Holiday, our school decided to hold a Ki Orahi and Maori Games day. Room 7 have had quite a few students away with illness and we're still in Traffic Light Orange so our games have had to be within our bubbles. Nevertheless, with the guidance of Coaches Lucas and Chelsea from Kelly Sports we have made the most of this special occasion.

STEM in Room 7.

 Over the past 2 weeks Room 7 have taken an opportunity to explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) thanks to EPro8. 

Everyone enjoyed learning about the topics and building things with the equipment so much that we didn't want to stop. 

We are so grateful to EPro8 for giving this opportunity.

Saint Patrick's Day in Traffic Light Red!

 On 17th of March, our whole school celebrated the Feast of Saint Patrick's Day. In the morning we attended School Mass under our canopy, but we weren't able to sing our hymns due to the Red Restrictions. One member from each class brought a Four Leaf Clover and hung them on our Offertory Tree .

Lunchtime Learning.

 Room 7 have been discussing healthy eating habits including the importance of eating breakfast and choosing good "fuel" to provide good energy. As you can see by their faces they are feeling good about their learning. Some of our students may not be joining us onsite this week, but the learning continues both kanohi ki te kanohi and via distance learning!

"Howzat!" Part One.

 Welcome back to 2022!

Room 7 have started exploring Cricket skills with the help of Coaches Brodie and Nick from Auckland Cricket as well as Coach Lucas from Kelly Sport. We're learning how to throw accurately and catch right now, but we can't wait until we can learn how to bat!
