Yay, Red, Bomb and Chuck found the lost eggs! By Alessandra

afternoon, my family and I went to the movies to watch Angry Birds at Sylvia
Park Hoyts Cinema.

First we jumped into my
dad's big, black van and we headed to Countdown to by some yummy snacks. We
brought popcorn (butter flavour), cold ice cream (chocolate) and some refreshing
drinks. After we got all that we needed, we proceeded to Hoyts Cinema. When we
got there, my dad bought us tickets right away. He told my family that we were
in cinema 3 and that we had to go in now because the movies was about to start.
I was worried because I did not want to miss any part of the
movie.

When we got inside, I saw
my friend Lily and I asked her if she would like to sit with us. She said,
''Yes''. I was very happy because I hadn't seen her in a long time. She went to
Samoa for a holiday and she just came back. Then the movie started so we settled
down into our seats and also started munching our popcorn and ice
cream.

The movie was about three
birds named Red, Bomb and Chuck trying to figure out what the pigs were hiding
and why they were keeping it as a secret from them. But the truth is, the pigs
wanted to steal the eggs from the birds so they could have something to eat for
dinner. Fortunately, the birds discovered their evil plan so they attacked the
pigs' castle and took their eggs back.

Before long the movie was
finished so we decided to go home because we were all
sleepy.

My favourite part was when
Red, Bomb and Chuck found the lost eggs because their parents were all sad then
they felt very happy when they were returned to them. I wish that next time my
nana could come with us because she really wanted to watch the movie as
well.

Learning Intention: We are learning to understand and use descriptive language in a recount.
Success criteria: I know I can do this when I use adjectives to describe my weekend watching the Angry Birds movie.

I can't wait to go to church next Sunday! By Xavier

On a sunny Sunday, My mum and I waited at the bus stop for the bus because we were going to church.
A few minutes later, we saw our bus turn around the corner and it stopped in front of us. When  the bus came, my mum and I stopped the bus and hopped on. When we were almost there, my mum woke me up to press the button to stop the bus. We hopped off and walked into church quietly.

I sang wonderful songs with my mum during mass and I saw some of my friends there as well! Father read a pray about Jesus and also people were talking about God. Then the congregation drank and ate the bread and the wine. After that I prayed for my family and friends before church ended.

Soon after, I went to holy communion and some of my friends were involved as well. We talked about God and asked a lot of questions. Then we ended our day with a lovely karakia. We had to practise praying all the the prayers that were on the paper given to us for homework last week.

Then I went with my aunty to drop my mum off to the city. It was a long ride but my cousin and I made the ride fun by telling stories and jokes. Later on I went over to my aunt’s home for lunch before I was dropped off home. I ate some sandwiches and It was very delicious. I had a lot of fun on Sunday and my favourite part of the day was when I was at church because I felt blessed.

Those nutella brownies look so delicious! By Punipuao

How to make nutella brownies:
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons of Nutella
  • 2 large eggs
  • Plain flour
  • A half teaspoon of baking powder
  • Bowl
  • Spatula
You will need:
  • A 20c of a baking tray
  • Baking paper
  • knife
Safety:
Parent helper
Method
  1. First get your baking tray ready to put the ingredients on.
  2. Next crack 2 eggs into a big bowl.
  3. Then put half a teaspoon of baking powder and plain flour and don't forget to put in the delicious Nutella.
  4. After that, stir your ingredients together until your mixture is very smooth.
  5. Pour the mixture into your prepared baking tray and very gently use a spatula to smooth out the top of your mixture.
  6. Place the baking tray into the oven and ask an adult to turn it to 180 degrees celsius.( Remember to check the oven every 20 minutes).
  7. Use a chopstick to check if your brownies are ready. It is ready when the chopstick comes out clean when you poke it into the brownie. Try to do this on the side so you don't ruin the brownies.
  8. When it is done, ask an adult to cut the brownies into square pieces.
  9. Lastly you can add some chopped strawberries or   berries on the top.
When this is done you can share this with your friends and family or share this recipe.

I had so much fun playing with my cousins! By Akesa

On Saturday my cousins and I went outside to play. Taniela said to us, "Should we play touch?". My cousins and I told him," no!" because we might get hurt from the pole. Launoa said, "We play netball because Soane needs to practice his chest passing.My cousin Taniela divided us into our team of two. I was in Tanielas team with Johnny, Folau was with Soane and Launoa. The game started. We were running from side to side so that we could catch the ball.

After that we stopped and Taniela said, "Let's practiced our chest passing". So we practiced again and again untill we knew how to chest pass. Then we started to play netball when we were playing Soane marked me so I couldn't go to the front or to the sides, I was stuck so Folau had the ball and he trying to get the ball into the red fruit container but he couldn't because when he threw it inside, Taniela caught it. Then I became free so I ran to the other side to get the ball off Taniela. He chest pass it to me so I caught it and threw it into the small house.


We felt tired so we took a break. Later on, I asked Taniela if we could please play soccer so he said to me, "Yes, "We were in one team. I kicked the ball so my team and I walked to the front and did our trick so Soane kick the ball and Launoa tried to kick the ball back to us but she couldn't because Taniela was too strong. Folaus team had 10 point but my team started to catch up with them. In the end, mt team got 36 points and Folaus team lost.


Later I went and sat down because I was tired. I told Taniela that I was going to take a brake so I just watched them playing. It was getting dark so we decided to go inside the house.


Finally I went to have a shower then had dinner. After dinner I was played with my mum's tablet. I was playing farm hero and I had to collect all the eggs the fruit and the vegetables. I tried to collect all of it but I couldn't because my mum only saved me 1 life to play so I died on the game. Then I played candy crush and I won. I was happy because if I lose then the life is finished so I went to my room to sleep.


My favorite part of the story was when I played sports with my cousins. I enjoyed my weekend. I had fun playing with my cousins. I wish I could play with my family and friends again soon.

Success criteria: I know I can do this when I follow the correct structure of a recount: orientation, events, conclusion to write about my weekend playing with my cousins.

Yay! We won the basketball game! By Vaughan

On a partly cloudy Saturday,
my uncle, cousin and I went to the Otahuhu basketball competition. We travelled
there in the car. It took us nearly 50 minutes to get there. We named our team
Tigers. We versed a team called ‘Leopard’  and they had a lot of good players.
I was scared because I didn’t think we could beat them.

Before the game got started,
my uncle said, “Put on your basketball shoes and clothes!” Soon the whistle blew
and the game started. When the ball came down, I ran fast as I could to grab the
ball. I quickly pass it to my cousin. He bounced the ball and sprinted to the
hoop and took a shot. Yay, it went in.

Then the whistle blew and we
got one point and the other team didn't score any points. I was jumping up and
down because I was so excited about my team scoring a point.

After that the whistle blew
again it was half time. While we were resting, my uncle said to my cousins and
I, “Try your best to defend the person next to you and get the ball off
them.”

referee blew the whistle and we are back on the court. When the other team was
dribbling the ball, my cousin was defending him and he got the ball off him and
that made me very happy. When he stole the ball off the person, he pass it to me
and I shot the ball into the hoop to score two points. My uncle called out to me
and said, “Good shot Vaughan!” After that, we had to check the ball, when the
referee tossed the ball up, my cousin jumped up and got the ball and pass it to
me. I ran so fast that a speeding train couldn't catch me. However the other
team got the ball off me and they ran and shot the ball
in.

After that, the game started
and my cousin and I worked together as a team to get the ball from the other
team. When I was defending the person beside me, my cousin Immanuel passed the
ball to me and I sprinted while my cousin blocked the person next to him. He ran
to me and I passed ball to him. He ran to the hoop and took his best dunk. All
my uncle and friends were surprised that my cousin Matthew just dunked the ball
into the hoop.

A while later, the whistle
blew and I was jumping up and down because we had won the basketball game. After
that, my team shaked hands with the Leopard team and we all said, “Good game!”
to the
other team. After
that, my uncle bought us some hot dogs and coca cola from the shop in Otara,
then he took my friend and I home.

I
had a lot of fun playing basketball with the other team and I hope I can do a
slam dunk like Lebron James next time.


Learning

sentences.

Is your favourite movie 'The Jungle book'? By Alessandra

On a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon, my family and I decided to go to the movies to watch the Jungle book.  We were all excited so we got ready as soon as possible then immediately went to Hoyts Cinema at Sylvia Park.

When we got to the movies, my dad bought tickets for us. Then, he told us that we will be in Cinema 4 but we had to wait for two hours because the movie was starting at 3 o’clock and it was only 1 o'clock. While we were waiting we went to countdown to buy some popcorn and snacks. We got crackers, some fruits like apples and pears and some lollies.

After we got all that we needed, we headed back to the cinema because it was almost 3 o’clock. We went straight to Cinema 4 and settled ourselves in the comfortable chairs.
Then the movie started and we also started eating our popcorn and snacks. Before the movie was finished, all our food was gone.

The movie was about a little boy named Mowgli who thought that he was a wolf because a pack of wolves raised him. There was a tiger named Shere Khan who wanted to kill Mowgli because he wasn’t an animal. Fortunately, Mowgli was not killed because all the other animals in the jungle protected him by attacking the evil Shere Khan.

My favourite part was when Mowgli helped a baby elephant because it was stuck in a hole. I hope next time we could invite some friends because my friend James really wanted to see the movie as well. I had a fantastic day with my family watching the movie.

My brother and I can shoot the ball into a hippo's eyes and mouth! By Mary

Last Saturday 21of May 2016 I went to my sister’s house for a sleepover. The weather was Sunny.I went to my sister’s house in the evening because my mum was busy in the morning and the afternoon because she had to help her sister, cousin and her friends.


Before I went to go bed, I told my little brother Cornelius to stop watching YouTube on the laptop and go to go and kiss our little sister Faith. I did the same as Cornelius and kissed my little sister Faith as well.

In the morning my little brother, my little sister, my big sister and I went upstairs to have some breakfast. We had bacon and eggs, toast and Milo. It was delicious. The bacon was crispy and the toast was crunchy. The Milo was smooth and hot.

After we ate breakfast, we all went shopping together to go and buy a present for my cousin Patrick. We bought him a phone and some clothes. My cousin Patrick turned 18 yeas old. I was very excited because he was having his birthday at chipmunks. I remember when I was little, I liked to go to chipmunks.

When we arrived there, my little brother and I took our shoes and went to go play in the shooting area. When we went to shooting area, my little brother and I shoot the ball into the hippos eyes and mouth. I had lot of fun.

After a while my sister called my little brother and I to came and join because my cousin was going to blow out the candles. We all sang the happy birthday song to my cousin and then he blew out the candles.

The cake was really yummy and chocolatey. After that we all went home because we felt tired and it was getting dark. I had great time at the birthday. My favourite part of the day was when I was shooting hoops with my little brother because it was a lot of fun.

Next time I want to be at the front of the check out line! By Punipuao

On Saturday 28th of May, my mum and I went shopping at Pak'n'Save to buy what we needed for the weekend. My mum and I got dressed up and we left our house at 8 o'clock in the morning. We said, "Goodbye!" to my siblings and my dad.

While we were driving to Sylvia park, I made a list of food that we needed for the weekend. On the list I wrote: 2 bags of croissants, 3 coffee packs, coconut cream, medium rice bag, sea salt chips and milo.
When we arrived at Sylvia park, my mum and I walked to the bank to withdraw $250 dollars out of her bank to buy our food. After that, we walked to Pak' n save. Within a minute, I got a trolley, but the one that I wanted was stuck to the one in front of it, so my mum helped me to pull it apart.
At first, my mum and I tried to search for our food that we wanted, but we could not find it, so we looked at the labels on the signs. Finally we found our items of food, and I ticked them off on the right side of the list. Then we walked over to the check out and waited for our turn.
We waited for the line to move and it took 30 minutes for my mum and I to get to the front. We scanned our items of food and my mum told me to get a big box. I got a big box with a sign that says cookie time. The lady placed our items into the box and we left our trolley back to the trolley area.
We got into our little, black car and drove home to prepare our breakfast. It was a lot of fun shopping with my mum.
My favourite part of the day was when my mum and I looked for all the food because I like searching

for items and objects.

Learning intention: We are learning to write a recount.
Success criteria: I know I can do this when I follow the structure of a recount starting with the introduction, followed by the events, then the conclusion about my mum and I going shopping for the weekend.
