Ki O Rahi Tournament 2019

Yesterday was special for our children for several reasons: First because it marked the end of Matariki, secondly because the inaugural Ki O Rahi Tournament took place. Here's what April had to say about the day:

"Ki O Rahi is a game that represents a legend of “Rahi and the Patupaiarehe”.

Rahi and the Patupairehe is a legend about a man (Rahi) whose wife was stolen by fairies that live in the forest ( The Patupaiarehe). Rahi had to find his wife.  So then Rahi packed food, water then went on his Journey. He crossed a desert, met a giant hawk who saved his life.

Saint Patricks went to a Ki O Rahi tournament. We played lots of games, we saw hundreds of schools. We won our first game. Then it got a lot harder. At the end we ate sausage rolls (hotdogs), drank drinks. Our coaches from Kelly sports were supporting us.

Thank you Kelly Sports and Coach Ronnie, Coach Shanice, and also Georgina Gatenby (from Sports Auckland)."

How Do We Get Our Markers To Work?

Mr Bell is always sending us up to the office to get new whiteboard markers for our class. He was telling us about something someone had posted on the Facebook Teachers NZ group and we wanted to try it. Ellma even explained how you can try it with your own worn out whiteboard markers.

Ki O Rahi Training

During Term 2 Room 7 are learning about the legend of Ki O Rahi and how to play this game. Thanks to Kelly Sport coaches Shanice and Ronnie, we are working hard to learn all the names for the zones, developing the skills and enjoying our journey. There is a tournament coming up on 26th June, so we are hoping to bring at least two teams along to enjoy the day.

F Is For Friendship And Respect.

When our seniors go for their Cross Country running they help out our littlest students by offering encouragement and support around the training course. It is lovely to be out in the sunshine and fresh air.

Rippa Rugby Tournament

On the 4th of April two teams of Year 5 and 6 students participated in the Tamaki Cluster Rippa Rugby Tournament at Mt Wellington War Memorial Reserve. This was our first time being involved with this sport and quite a challenge for our children.

Although we didn't win all our games, our children thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and learned a lot about teamwork, sportsmanship and supporting each other.

Our heartfelt thanks to our coach Hamish Fraser from Marist Rugby Club, the expert referees from Pro Sport Auckland and Megan Grayson of Auckland Rugby for such a wonderful opportunity.

Census At Schools Time.

This past Monday morning Room 7 filled in a survey about themselves, their lives and opinions across a wide range of topics. The survey results were entered into the Census At Schools database.
