Learning Basketball With ABSL

Our P.E. sessions this term have really made an impact with our students. Coaches Tania, Tai and Ra are helping out students to develop the basic skills necessary to participate in a game of Basketball. Although our school doesn't have the best equipment our coaches are making our learning fun and relevant to us.

NZSL Week

During our week of learning Room 7 have been learning some basic NZ Sign Language. Erich Wyne, Dre, Leonie and Desiree have worked with Nicola McLean to learn how to sign the alphabet, how to sign their names, as well as asking basic questions and replying in NZSL.

Our students Eli and Amiel are learning how to edit video using iMovie so they put together this video of R7 working on tasks to help us learn some NZSL:

Cloak Of Dreams

Today in our Te Rito Toi sessions the children explored the idea of someone having their "Cloak Of Dreams" torn. Once we had discussed what the words "cloak" and "torn" meant we all contributed our own dreams to a new cloak. Here is the Room 7 Cloak Of Dreams.

Freeze Frame Time.

Another exciting task in our exploration of "The Emperor and The Magic Goose" was to put ourselves into the roles of members of the town where the main story takes place in this legend. As you can see, the children enjoy exploring this story through actions.

Level 2: Back Again, With Te Rito Toi

On our return to school last week, our students began working through "The Emperor And The Magic Goose" as adapted by Professor Julie Dunn and Professor John O'Toole. During this unit of work our children were asked to visualise key moments in the story and draw them as a group to share with others. Here are a few examples of their work.

The below video documents the children's first day at school in the village. Groups have put themselves in the shoes of various people involved to help them understand what was going on during this time.

Our First Hangout Under Level 4

These are definitely strange times but our first day of Distance Learning for Term 2 has brought us together on Google Hangouts. Our learners have done so well adapting to learning from home. As you can see, it's all new to us, but we're determined to make it work.

We hope you and everyone else in your bubbles are happy, healthy and safe at this time.
