Fire

Fire is a type of gas that is really hot and it is red. It can sometimes be yellow. Fire is used for cooking and providing warmth. Fire can be used for survival or can cause death. Some people are killed by fire from electrical faults, because they leave the electricity on for too long. Its not safe to touch fire because you may get burned or killed from the hot gas.

Some people use fire to torture others in a cruel way. There are also people that play with fire for fun but then the fire spreads around the place uncontrollably and it begins to burn everything in its way. Fire causes smoke and it is dangerous for people to inhale because it can cause damage to the lungs.

If you have trouble with fire and if you can’t stop it, then call 111 for New Zealand Firefighters. Firefighters are people who help people who have trouble with fire. They use water to stop the fire to avoid injuries or death. Firefighters use protective gear so they won’t get burnt by it, Whenever someone is trapped in fire and they have no other way to escape, they dash through to put out the fire and take the person to safety.

A volcano has fire and it’s called lava. When it erupts, the lava comes out and destroys everything in its way. Lava is like fire because it’s a really hot gas and when it goes all over your body your body burns. Fire is hot and dangerous.

Fire can be dangerous and useful. It is important to understand how fire works and use it carefully so that you don’t hurt yourself.

Learning intention: We are learning to write an explanation using the correct structure.

Success criteria: I know I can do this when I organize my ideas into paragraphs.

What Is A School? By Ingrid

School is a place where kids come to learn new things about the world and make friends.

The people at school are the principal, the teachers and the students. The principal organizes all the things and events that will be happening in the school for the school year. Teachers teach the students new and interesting things about different subjects in the world like R.E, Maths and Reading and many, many more. The students learn and use and apply the knowledge, information and strategies in everyday life.

There are many places in a school like a library, a sick bay, an office, a lunch room and classrooms. The library is a good place to be at school with all the books around you and the information in them. In the lunchroom a teacher  prepares the orders for the kids that buy their lunches. A sick bay is very important  because it’s the place you go if you get hurt or injured.

There are many programmers you can do at school like sports, APOPS and Duffy books. Some of the sports are basketball, soccer, swimming and softball. Duffy books give books to kids for free. Sometimes schools have a Duffy Assembly and people come to do a play about the adventures Duffy has had.  

Some schools have very important days like Mission Day, Cultural Festival, St Patrick's day and a Christmas production. On Mission day each class makes products and activities to raise money to send to the Mission Sisters. Cultural Festival is when other students do dances from different culture then present them to the whole school and their parents. The Christmas production is when the oldest students do a play about Jesus’ birth.

School is very important because you learn thing that will help you in everyday life and prepares  you for your life in the future.

Soccer is a sport that keeps you fit. It’s a game played between two teams of five players and the players have a netted soccer goal at each end of the court.

In Soccer, the players have to get into their positions and the main position is the goal keeper. The goal keeper passes the ball so that his or her team mates can get a goal in at the other end.

Then the person with the ball has to try and get away from the person that is marking them. If the person without the ball kicks the person with the ball, it’s called a “Foul”. The person that got kicked without the ball gets a free shot.

Soccer is very important because it keeps you fit and healthy. Soccer helps us to build body strength. Soccer is not a sport that everyone can play, you have to train hard to keep up with your team. Soccer is a popular sport in Brazil.

A school is an organization for educating children.

There are many students who go and study in school. The principal runs the school and facilitates meetings with the teachers and staff. Teachers are adults who help the students to learn to read, write and think. A staff member is a person who helps the school with things. One staff is in charge of the attendance of the students and the other makes the lunch orders from the lunch orders box. When a school day ends, a cleaner comes in the classrooms and picks up the rubbish that are ignored or hidden by children.

There are many other programmes like 'Trash to fashion' and ‘Touch rugby’. In the trash to fashion activity, students have to use recyclable materials to turn into a fashionable outfit. Students have to plan the outfits by putting in a good sketch of how our designs are going to look like. In the end when the children have finished creating the dress, one of the members has to take a photo of the final look of the dress. The teacher who helps the students make the outfit has to send the picture to the trash to fashion judges and they will pick if the group could participate in the cat walk (Walking on the stage to show the outfit).

The purpose of attending school is to learn and to be educated so that the knowledge they gained, will help them get a good job and a better life in the future. There is also R.E where students learn about how to live as pilgrim people and the history of Jesus with his disciples. In writing, there are different genres like procedure, recount and explanation writings. Explanation is a writing where kids have to explain how something works, how to use it or what it is. Procedures is a writing where we have to include ingredients and how to make it. In each sentence, people have to start with an action word (verb). Students also have to make friends in school so that when kids don’t have anyone to play with, they don’t have to feel lonely.

There are facilities that teachers and students use. Classrooms are where students learn and each teacher has a room of her own and with her own children to teach. The sports shed is where people get the balls and equipment to borrow and use them at Morning Tea or Lunch. The library is where people can issue or borrow books to get information from something or do researching for their topics.

It is fun at school because there are lots of events that happens, like Cultural Festival or Te Mani Ahi (A performance by APOPS). Before Cultural Festival, students have to practice the dance moves every week on Thursdays for 8 weeks. Another event is 'St.Patrick's day'. This is when the school celebrates by attending Mass at Church first and then the students are split into teams to play activities and games run by the teachers in their classrooms. At the end of the day, everyone gets a Popsicle and they get to choose a flavour: lemon and wild berry. Mission day is a time where people have to think of fun activities or sell things to raise money for the Holy Angels Orphanage. On Daffodil Day, people have to wear yellow and donate a gold coin and it goes to the people who has cancer.

St. Patrick’s School  is a great place to play and learn new things. It is a fair and good place where you can make lots of new friends.

SAINT PATRICK’S SCHOOL

So what is Saint Patrick’s School you ask? Saint Patrick’s School is a Catholic school that is in Panmure, Auckland, New Zealand. It is a community facility. It is used for learning and making new friends. Students at Saint Patrick’s School learn a lot of subjects to become smarter thinkers. They learn subjects like R.E, inquiry, writing and maths.

    Most people at this school are students. Students are children who goes to a certain school to learn, create and share new things. There are more than 100 students at this school. Isn’t that cool? The teachers at Saint Patrick’s School are qualified and trained teachers. There is a teacher for every two year levels. Mrs Bullot is the principal at Saint Patrick’s School. A principal runs, guides and looks after the students in this school. She buy the stationeries and sports gear for the students and teachers.

There are a lot of facilities at this school. There is an office for photocopying documents and sending the attendance roll. There is also a library who is ran by Mrs Yumul which can be found near Room One and Two for students to read books to get more information. There is also a sick bay where a sick student may go to in order to have a rest while waiting for their parents to come to pick them up. The lunchroom is where pupils at Saint Patrick’s School order their lunches.

Most students come early to school. School starts from 8.45am in the morning to 2.40pm in the afternoon. There are two break times, morning tea and lunchtime. At morning tea and lunch, they encourage healthy eating so students can concentrate. When they finished eating their food, they wait for the bell to ring. They play on the school’s playground and courts. When the bell rings, that’s the time for the students to get back to their classrooms to continue their education.

Student at Saint Patrick’s School are lucky because they have many programs and events. They get exercise and learn new skills from Kiwisports (thanks to the principal). Kiwisports teach the children different types of sports such as softball, soccer, AFL, gymnastics, basketball and many more. Saint Patrick’s School is a Duffy school. Students get free Duffy Books to read. There are also Duffy Assemblies or theatres to engage the students.

Saint Patrick’s School celebrates Saint Patrick’s Day and Daffodil Day. Daffodil Day is a time where students bring a gold coin and wear something yellow to school. They donate money to people who have cancer. They also celebrate the uniting of the cultures through a Cultural Festival. Students perform dances from different countries.

Saint Patrick’s School is part of the Tamaki Cluster. The Tamaki Cluster is a group of school that use chromebooks or netbooks for their work. This school has summer and winter uniforms for girls and boys to wear for school which can be found at the Warehouse in Sylvia Park.
