Mum, dad, when could we go back to the lake? By Shannon

On Saturday the 25th of April, it was a sunny bright morning at my cousin's house. My family, cousins and I went to the lake at Hamilton for some exercise. We started walking at 11:30am and came back home at 12:30am.

When we arrived at the lake, we started jogging for about 20 minutes. Minutes rolled by and we started to slow down and finally we stopped. "Ugh! I'm so tired", I said.
"Let's walk instead", replied dad. My mum was way after us. She wasn't tired at all! My dad, cousins, sister and I were looking for fish, baby fish or lily pads. Suddenly, my dad stopped and said, "I found baby fish!"
"Wow! They're so tiny!", my sister said. I was surprised. 13 minutes later, we went back to the car. My mum was waiting there for us and she had been waiting for seven minutes. Then we drove back to my cousin's house.

My cousins, sister and I played Kinetic Sand. I had fun playing with it because I loved making creations. A few hours passed by and we were all still playing outside. Then we decided to go inside to have some food.
We had fish, potato chips, potato fritters and sausages. "Yum!", my cousin said. It was so delicious that I couldn't stop eating! After that, we watched a few movies. That was one of the most interesting day because I have never seen a lily pad and a baby fish before.

The lake was so interesting with fascinating creatures. I hope I get to go again soon so I can explore some more next time.

Rest in peace, all those that died during the war! By Julius

World War 1 started in 1915 when Germany wanted to take over the world but other countries wanted peace and that’s how World War 1 started.

Germany declared war on the British government. New Zealand was part of the British empire, so they joined forces with New Zealand, Russia, Australia and France. A total of 30 countries were involved in the war.

Life in the trenches was hard as the British and France recruited manpower from China to support the troops with manual labour. Their main objective was digging the trenches before the main attack. More than 140,000 labourers from China helped to dig the trenches for the allies in the Western front.

Powers on one side and central powers on the other, the war went on from the 28th of July 1914 until 11th of November 1918. Between the allies and the central powers of Germany, the war ended on the 11th of November 1918 when the allies won and the rest, as we all say, is history.

Help, help, I need to destroy my micro bots! By Cameron

On Easter Saturday, I asked my dad if I can sleepover at my nana’s house. He said, “Yes! You can.” So I pack my clothes for church and some balls to play with. When I got to nana’s house, I said “Hello!” to her. She asked,

"What are you doing here?” I said
“I am sleeping over.” As soon as I got in the house, I asked for some noodles because I was hungry.

When I was having my noodles, John got a text from my aunty saying that Xavier left Eli at home so we picked them up. John asked Eli what he had for dinner. Eli said, “I had a hot chocolate.” So we went to McDonald's to get a cheeseburger for Eli.

When we got home, I went inside to watch Big Hero 6. Eli came in and ate his food while watching with me.
Big Hero 6 is a robot who helps Hero to destroy his microbots. Hero like to fight robots. Hero can upgrade his friends into superheroes.

After Big Hero 6 had finished, I played a little bit of Minecraft. I built a snow house with water in it because if you put lava in it, it will burn the snow. I also built a fun and easy maze with some green wool and leaves. After that I went to bed because it was late.

I wish we had more time with Xavier. Maybe we can pick him up earlier next time.

WALT use appropriate language features in a recount.
I know I can do this when I use speech marks in my writing.
