WOW! I cant believe my pets are getting along! By Lupe

On Saturday the 2nd of July,
Image result for sharpeimy dad was on Facebook scrolling down the news feed, and he saw that his friend was selling puppies.

My dad called all of us to come and take a look. He asked us if we wanted a puppy and we all screamed, "Yes!" My dad texted his friend and asked, "How much for one?" He said it was $400 dollars but he will sell it to us for $300 dollars.

We were all excited but worried about our cat. Our cat goes out for adventures around the house. Our neighbourhood has dogs and sometimes our cat fights with the dogs, so we weren't sure if she'd fight with our puppy or not.

When my dad's friend arrived with the puppy, we all ran outside to meet them. My dad's friend told us all about the puppy and it is a boy.

I was the first person in my family to hold our puppy. My mum took me to the pet shop and we bought our puppy a ball to play with, a dog brush, some dog food and shampoo and conditioner to bathe him in, a bed and a food bowl.

When we arrived back home, we all sat down to figure out a name for him until the name Brownie popped into my head.

After that, we all took Brownie outside so he could get use to the backyard. My adventurous cat came wandering around the corner, but she didnt care about the dog. She went to Brownie straight away and played with him.

Soon my dad came out and said, "Hey, I'm going to the gym so you have to take great care of him!" and we all replied, "Yes! we will take great care of our little Brownie!"

By the time my dad got back, we were all cuddled up and had fallen asleep on the couch. Brownie licked my cheek to wake me up. I got up and fed him a little can of dog food.

Then I went back to sleep. Somehow, Brownie made his way to me and slept on my stomach. My mum threw a blanket over us and we soon dozed off.

My favourite part of the day was when my cat played with Brownie, because it was cute and it was great that they can get along.

I can't wait to pick up my aunty! By Mary

On Sunday 3nd of July 2016, my mum and I went to the airport to pick up my auntie Lavinia. The weather was sunny and cloudy. It took an hour for us to get to the airport.

After we picked up my aunty we went to my older sister's house to drop her off to celebrate her coming to Auckland. I was so excited because
she told us that at the end of the celebration she is going to give all of the children some candies.

Later on that day, we prayed for coming to Auckland for a vacation. We also prayed for the food that we at.

Soon after the prayers, we went to get some food. We ate rice, spaghetti, chicken and ham. The rice was tasty and the spaghetti was slippery. The chicken was crunchy and the ham was chewy.

Before long, it was getting dark outside. My auntie started throwing candy on the floor for the children and I can quickly stole some. I had a lot of fun. Then we all felt tired so we went home. I had a great time with my auntie.

My favourite part of the day was when my auntie arrived at the airport, and gave us candies at the end of the day.

There is so many items in this store! By Tristan

On a very cold Saturday night, my family and I went to K-Mart Botany to do some shopping. We changed to our winter clothes and hopped in our gigantic red car. On the way there, I closed my eyes and thought about all the things that happened in my life like when I was baptised and became a Christian. Then I talked with my mother about when I was a baby and all the good times I shared with my family while growing up.

When we reached our destination, I hopped out of the car and I saw people coming in and out of the store. When we were inside, I looked around and my parents told me we should start exploring from the right side first then the left side. So we first headed to the baking and cooking department.  My mother looked at a black baking pan for cooking. We talked about the price, if it's good value for our money or if it would fit in our oven or if it would last. Then after five minutes of discussion, my mother decided to buy it.

My uncle found a jacket that he really wanted to buy. He even tried to fit it in and the jacket did fit him, perfectly. So we went to the check-out to purchase our items.

When we reached the cashiers we waited in the line and when it was our turn I helped my uncle and my mother to put the items in the bags.  As soon as my mother finished scanning the bar codes of the things we were buying, she paid them using her credit card and when the receipt came out, we headed back to our car. We all ran towards our car because we all felt extremely cold outside especially because  we just came out from a warm place.

Saturday night was a great night because we got to purchase two items. My favourite part of Saturday night was when I helped my parents scanned the  bar codes of the things we were buying from K-Mart.  Next time we go shopping, I want to ask my parents if we could go to another store besides K-Mart.

Learning Intention: We are learning to understand and use descriptive language in our writing.
Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I add 14 appropriate adjectives to describe my weeking shopping at K-Mart.

It is very hard work cleaning up the house! By Xyril

On Saturday, the 25th of June, my mum, my sister and I decided to clean up around out my house because we were bored. We used sweeping brushes and dustpans to sweep and clothes to wipe.

We started with our own rooms. My mum told me to sweep my room because it was very dusty. I swept for a few minutes and I was soon finished. Then my sister started to wipe the floor with a red cloth with four stripes. She wiped the floor intensely so that it looked shiny. While I was waiting I went to my mum's room to play with my baby sister in her cot and then I started sweeping again.

After that, I swept the most spacious room in the house and was soon finished. Then I went to my room and told my sister that I had finished. I started reading my book while I waited. Then my mum told me to sweep the hallway that leads us everywhere, so I did. I shook the floor mats because I thought there might be dust under them as well.

Then my sister went out of my mum's room and headed to the kitchen to do some more cleaning. My mum went out taking my baby sister with her. After a few minutes, I finished and we were all able to rest.

My favourite part of the day was when we had finished and was able to take a good rest from all of that hard work. It was a really hard working day!

Learning Intention: We are learning to follow the structure of a recount.

Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I write an orientation, followed by the events and then a conclusion about weekend cleaning up the house.

I love going to my uncle's house on the weekend! By Justice

On Sunday afternoon, my uncles, aunties, cousins, sisters, mum, dad and I all gathered at my uncle's house
to have dinner together. My family and I always gather at my uncle's house every Sunday after church.

When my mum, dad, sister and I arrived, it was only the household people that were inside the house. As soon as I walked inside, I went to the lounge and sat on the couch with my uncle. We watched T.V together. After I sat down my dad, mum and sister went past us. My dad came to the lounge while my mum mum and sister walked to the kitchen to look for my aunty. We watched a fighting programme called WWE.

After a while, my aunty (my mum's sister) arrived with her kids and her husband. when they walked past the lounge, I walked to the kitchen because it was getting stuffy as the lounge is small. They came with some food for all of us for dinner. As more and more people came, the noise got louder and louder. My uncle, his wife and the children were the last to arrive. They brought dinner as well.

Soon it was time for us to prepare dinner. Each one of us who were in the kitchen had a part to play so that the food can be prepared quickly. After the men's food was ready, the ladies and the children helped themselves to some food. As soon as everyone got their food, my uncle said food grace for us and then everyone ate the delicious food.

When everyone finished eating, my aunty did the dishes while the children collected the plates from the lounge. There was a lot of dishes for my aunty to wash as the table was filled with dishes. While my aunty was doing the dishes, all the children sat on the ground in the hallway where it was very hard and uncomfortable.

Next, my cousin was called to go and sit in the lounge and say his speech that he prepared for his 21st birthday. It was so sad that his speech made most of us cry. We were all so impressed of him. His dad whispered to him and told him to make it short. Then everyone started giving him suggestions of what might happen to him on his birthday.

Before long, it was time for us to leave to go home and get some rest. Just before everyone went outside to put on their shoes, we went and gave a three-second kiss to my uncle. I had so much fun at my family gathering at my uncle's house.

Learning intention: We are learning to understand and use the language features of a recount.
Success criteria: I know I can do this when I use past tense to describe my family gathering at my uncle's house.
